Life is priceless

I work in the ER and yesterday I had a patient die. This happens quite often here where I work, but I was touched by this one in particular. While I was doing chest compressions on a person that I didn't know I started thinking of loved ones he had. This patient laid lifeless on a table with multiple members of the healthcare team fighting to get his heart to beat on its own once again. He had family, friends and a wife that loved him and would miss him very much.
I left that day knowing we had done our best, but still in sorrow for a family who had lost someone. This was the first time I had left work crying, but I know that this and all other experiences in the ER will make me a better person. They make me think of my own family and friends and how much I appreciate and love them. Life is taken for granted, one day you are at work/school/home and in a split second someone you love could be gone. I hope this experience will make me spend everyday to the fullest and appreciate the support I have from loved ones.
