Life is priceless

I work in the ER and yesterday I had a patient die. This happens quite often here where I work, but I was touched by this one in particular. While I was doing chest compressions on a person that I didn't know I started thinking of loved ones he had. This patient laid lifeless on a table with multiple members of the healthcare team fighting to get his heart to beat on its own once again. He had family, friends and a wife that loved him and would miss him very much.
I left that day knowing we had done our best, but still in sorrow for a family who had lost someone. This was the first time I had left work crying, but I know that this and all other experiences in the ER will make me a better person. They make me think of my own family and friends and how much I appreciate and love them. Life is taken for granted, one day you are at work/school/home and in a split second someone you love could be gone. I hope this experience will make me spend everyday to the fullest and appreciate the support I have from loved ones.

Working in the ER does keep things in perspective, doesn't it? Your pictures turned out really cute! We'll have to plan a get together soon but I noticed we're schedule together on an overnight in October. Fun!

I agree...so sad that one could be here one day and gone the next. You've got to cherish each day, right? Sorry you had a sad day. You are so great, Bec.

I remember the first code I worked on that passed away. It was very difficult. I cried, too. But it does get better (is that a good thing?) Miss working with you. See ya!

Adam and I have learned that same sweet lesson. Life is precious and in an instant it can be gone. It is so important to cherish each day. Your family is adorable, love the pic. Hope to see you guys soon.

PS Do you work with Melissa? Her parents live across the street from my parents in South Jordan and we have gone on a few boating trips together. She is adorable!

WOW! Look at your family! Everyone is so grown up! I barely recognized Amy, she looks like you did when we went to highschool. Everyone looks great Becca and I couldn't agree more with your statements about family.
